This ring combines two different metals and two different diamond cuts in one piece. The centre is built from clean-edged, rectangular diamonds, while the frame is made of classic round brilliants. The effect is a texture and light play you don’t get from a single stone.

At the centre is a square composite of princess-cut and baguette-cut diamonds, set together so tightly that no metal prongs are visible from the top. A halo of sixteen round, brilliant-cut diamonds frames this centre. The band itself is two-tone; the shoulders are smooth white gold, while the lower shank is yellow gold with a fine, rope-like texture along its edges. Tucked into the profile is a single, small blue sapphire.

This ring is cast in solid 14K or 18K gold. We use 14K for most pieces, which is 58.3% pure gold mixed with alloys for strength, making it tough enough for a ring you’ll wear constantly. The 27 natural diamonds have an average colour grade of E-F and VVS clarity, which means they're colourless and have very, very few inclusions, even when viewed under magnification. The white gold setting is plated with rhodium, a platinum-group metal that gives it a bright, silvery-white finish and protects it from scratches.

You get the visual footprint of a large solitaire because of the way the centre diamonds are invisibly set. It creates a seamless plane of facets that covers a lot of surface area on the finger. The two-tone gold also means you don't have to worry about matching it to your other jewellery; it already goes with both white and yellow metals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this diamond ring have a small blue stone on the side?

That small blue stone is a natural sapphire. We set one inside the band of many of our rings as a personal mark from our studio. It sits low on the profile, so it's a detail mostly for the person wearing it, symbolizing sincerity and our commitment to the piece.

Can I wear my gold and diamond ring in the shower?

Yes, you can, but we recommend taking it off. While water won't harm the gold or diamonds, soap, shampoos, and minerals in tap water can build up a film over time. This film will dull the stones and metal, meaning you'll need to clean the ring more often to keep it bright.

How should a diamond engagement ring fit on my finger?

A well-fitting ring should slide over your knuckle with a bit of a push and sit comfortably at the base of your finger without feeling tight. It should be snug enough that it won't easily fall off, but you should be able to turn it. Your fingers can swell in heat, so a little room is good.

What happens if I need to return my diamond ring?

You can return the ring within 30 days of receiving it, provided it's in its original, unworn condition. Just email us at returns@vanhess.ca, and we will provide you with a prepaid shipping label and instructions for sending it back to our studio in Coquitlam.

How long does shipping take for a ring to the United States?

Shipping to the United States and Canada is free on orders over $60 CAD and typically takes 5 to 15 business days. We ship all our pieces from our studio in British Columbia. You’ll receive a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way.
