A wedding band is the ring you actually wear every day, so it should be made to fit your hand, your work, and your life — not pulled off a tray and rung up. At Vanhess Jewellery we design and make wedding bands in our own workshop, with our goldsmith on site and every step done in-house. We're a Canadian Jewellers Association member with more than 150 five-star Google reviews, and a good share of those couples drove out from Vancouver to have their rings made the way they wanted.

This page is specifically about wedding bands — the rings you exchange and keep. If you're still choosing the engagement ring, start with our Vancouver engagement ring page instead. For bands, read on: matched bridal sets, men's bands in finishes from hammered to wood-inlay, an honest metals comparison, engraving, fit and comfort, and what it all costs. Our full wedding band guide goes deeper if you want the long version.

Wedding bands designed in our Coquitlam workshop

We're honest about where we are: Vanhess is at Unit 2424, 2929 Barnet Highway, inside Coquitlam Centre — about a 35 to 45 minute drive from downtown Vancouver, or a one-seat ride on the Millennium Line. We are not pretending to be a downtown storefront. What you get for the trip is a real workshop where your band is made, not just sold. You can see the metal, try sample profiles on your finger, and talk to the person who will actually file and polish the ring.

Because the work happens here, small things are easy. A band can be sized, the profile rounded for comfort, the finish changed from polished to brushed, or a width adjusted by half a millimetre before anything is finished. If you'd rather start from scratch, our custom wedding bands page walks through how a fully bespoke band comes together.

Men's wedding bands

Men's bands are where finish and texture do most of the work, since the shapes are usually simple. We make these in a range of styles, and you can mix elements rather than pick one off a list:

  • Hammered — a faceted, peened surface that catches light and hides everyday scratches well.
  • Brushed (satin) — a soft matte finish that reads understated and is easy to refresh.
  • Milgrain — fine beaded edges for a slightly traditional look without being fussy.
  • Wood-inlay — a strip of real wood set into the band, sealed for daily wear.
  • Carbon-fibre — a modern, lightweight inlay with a dark woven pattern, good for couples who want something less conventional.

For more options, widths, and care notes specific to men's rings, see our men's wedding bands page. We're happy to make a man's band that deliberately matches or deliberately contrasts with a partner's ring — both are common requests.

Choosing a metal

The metal decides how the band wears, what it costs, and how it ages. Here's the plain version:

  • 14k gold — harder and more affordable than 18k, with a slightly paler colour. A practical choice for hands that take knocks.
  • 18k gold — richer colour and higher gold content, a little softer, usually a bit dearer. Available in yellow, white, and rose.
  • Platinum — dense, naturally white, and very durable. It doesn't need re-plating the way white gold can, but it costs more and feels heavier.
  • Palladium — naturally white like platinum and lighter on the finger, a middle option for people who want a white metal without platinum's weight or price.

Gold is also a more responsible choice than people assume. The World Gold Council reported that recycled gold made up roughly 27.5% of total supply in 2024, and we're glad to work in recycled gold on request. If your band will hold a diamond, all of ours move under the Kimberley Process, which covers about 99.8% of the world's rough diamond trade.

Matched sets & engraving

A matched bridal set means the wedding band is shaped to sit flush against the engagement ring, with no gap and no rocking. We can make a band that contours around an existing engagement ring — including one you didn't buy from us — or design both pieces together from the start so the fit is exact.

Engraving is included on most bands. Common choices are a date, initials, a short phrase, coordinates, or a partner's handwriting traced into the inside of the band. We engrave in-house, so the lettering style and depth are up to you, and you can see a proof before it's cut. Inside engraving stays private and doesn't affect how the band wears.

Pricing & timelines

Most of our wedding bands run between CAD $600 and $1,800 in 14k or 18k gold, depending on width, weight, finish, and any stones. Platinum bands cost more because the metal itself is dearer and denser. These are real working numbers, not a teaser price — we'll quote your exact band before you commit to anything.

A matched set typically takes about three to four weeks from approved design to finished rings, since the band is made to fit the engagement ring rather than pulled from stock. Simpler single bands can be quicker. For comparison, The Knot's survey put the average US engagement ring spend at around $5,200 — bands sit well below that, which is part of why couples are comfortable spending a little more on craftsmanship and fit.

Why Vancouver couples make the trip

The honest answer is that you get more for your money and more say over the result. Buying from a maker rather than a counter means fewer markups between you and the metal, and a person who can change the ring while it's still on the bench. There's also a buy-local pull: a 2024 report found 72% of British Columbians prioritise supporting small local businesses, and a workshop you can visit is about as local as jewellery gets.

If you want to plan the visit — directions, transit, and what to bring — see our visiting from Vancouver page. You can also call us first on (604) 653-6449 to book time with the goldsmith so you're not waiting around.

Wedding band questions

How far is your workshop from downtown Vancouver?

We're inside Coquitlam Centre at 2929 Barnet Highway, roughly a 35 to 45 minute drive from downtown Vancouver, or a single-seat ride on the SkyTrain Millennium Line. Most couples come out once to design and once to collect.

Can you match a wedding band to a ring I bought somewhere else?

Yes. We regularly shape a contoured band to sit flush against an engagement ring we didn't make. Bring the ring in and we'll fit the band to it directly so there's no gap.

What does a wedding band cost at Vanhess?

Most bands run between CAD $600 and $1,800 in 14k or 18k gold, with platinum costing more. Price depends on width, weight, finish, and any stones, and we quote your exact band before you commit.

How long does a matched set take?

About three to four weeks from approved design to finished rings, because each band is made to fit rather than taken from stock. A single, simpler band can sometimes be done sooner — just ask.
