Looking for an engagement ring in Coquitlam? You can walk into our shop today. Vanhess Jewellery is a real storefront at Unit 2424, 2929 Barnet Highway, inside Coquitlam Centre — a two-minute walk from the Coquitlam Central SkyTrain station. There's no appointment-only gate and no buzzer. Come in, try rings on your own hand, and talk to a person who can actually answer your questions.

We're a member of the Canadian Jewellers Association, we have a goldsmith's bench on site, and we've earned over 150 five-star Google reviews. Whether you want to buy a ring that's ready today or design one from scratch, both happen here in Coquitlam — not couriered out to a workshop in another city.

Engagement rings, made or chosen in Coquitlam

There are two ways to get your ring with us, and neither one is better than the other — it depends on what you want.

  • Choose from the case. If you've found a setting you love and you're ready to buy, you can take it home the same day. Many couples want exactly that: see it, try it, buy it.
  • Have it made to order. If you have a specific idea — a particular stone, a setting you sketched, a family ring you want to rework — our goldsmith builds it here. You can see our custom design process and bring in whatever you have, even if it's just a photo on your phone.

Because the bench is in the shop, you're not dealing with a middleman. If a ring needs sizing or a small adjustment, that's done in-house too. New to all of this? Our engagement ring guide walks through the basics before you visit, and once you've chosen the ring, our wedding bands page covers matching the band to it.

Natural or lab-grown — we'll be honest

We sell both natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds, and we'll give you a straight answer about each. A lab-grown diamond is chemically and physically the same as a mined one; the difference is how it was made and what it costs. Lab-grown lets you get a larger or higher-quality stone for the same budget, which is why more couples choose it every year. Some people still prefer a natural diamond, and that's a perfectly good choice too.

Diamonds are graded on four things — cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight. If you want the full explanation, the GIA's guide to the 4Cs is the clearest source there is, and other pages on our site go deeper. When a stone comes with a lab certificate, you can confirm it yourself through GIA Report Check. We'll show you the certificate before you buy — no pressure, no sales theatre.

Pricing & timelines

Here's what to expect so you can plan a budget honestly.

  • Custom engagement rings typically run between CAD $2,500 and $4,500, depending on the stone and the setting.
  • Lab-grown solitaires start from around $1,500.
  • Turnaround for a made-to-order ring is usually about four to six weeks from the day you sign off on the design.

For comparison, The Knot reports the average ring spend in the United States is around $5,200 — so you don't need to spend a fortune to get a beautiful, well-made ring. If you're working to a fixed number, tell us upfront and we'll show you what's realistic. We'd rather find you the right ring at your budget than push you past it.

Why buy your ring locally

Buying your ring from a shop you can walk back into matters more than people expect. If it ever needs cleaning, resizing, or a small repair down the road, you bring it to the same bench it was made on — not a mailing address. You meet the people who'll be there for your anniversary, not a faceless website.

Most Canadians say they value having small businesses in their community, yet a 2023 CFIB survey found only 13% mostly shop at them. Coquitlam is a genuinely mixed community — a large share of residents speak a language other than English at home — and we serve all of it, plainly and patiently. Come see the shop on our visit our store page, or just drop in. We're open seven days a week.

About four to six weeks from the day you approve the final design. If you're working toward a specific date, tell us early and we'll be honest about whether it's doable.

How much should I budget?

Custom engagement rings usually run CAD $2,500 to $4,500, and lab-grown solitaires start around $1,500. Tell us your number and we'll show you what fits it — there's no minimum spend to walk in and talk.
