Vanhess Jewellery does fine-jewellery repair in-house at our Coquitlam Centre bench — we don’t ship your piece to an off-site trade shop like most mall jewellers do. Bring in a broken chain, a worn prong, a snapped clasp, or a ring that needs resizing, and our own goldsmiths handle it here, with a free written estimate before any work starts. We’re a Canadian Jewellers Association member with 150+ five-star Google reviews.
Please note: we do not repair watches — no battery changes, movement servicing, or watch-strap work. We’re a fine-jewellery workshop (rings, chains, gold, platinum, and gemstone pieces). For watch servicing we’re happy to point you to a dedicated watchmaker.
What we repair
- Ring resizing — up or down in gold, platinum, palladium, and silver, including soldered wedding sets. More on ring resizing →
- Prong re-tipping & stone tightening — rebuild worn prongs before a stone is lost, re-set loose diamonds and gemstones.
- Chain & clasp repair — solder broken links, replace clasps and jump rings, repair bracelets and necklaces.
- Soldering & shank rebuilds — repair cracked shanks, join rings, rebuild thin or worn bands.
- Laser welding — a touch-screen laser welder for heat-sensitive stones (opal, emerald, tanzanite, pearl) and antique solder joins, so the stone stays protected.
- Polishing & rhodium plating — refinish scratched pieces, re-plate white gold to restore its bright white colour.

Pricing & turnaround
Every job starts with a free written estimate — firm pricing before we begin, no “while we had it open” surprises. As rough guidance: ring resizing runs about $45–$150 depending on metal and size change; prong re-tipping and stone tightening from around $40; chain and clasp repairs from around $35. Complex rebuilds and heavy stone work are quoted after assessment.
Most straightforward repairs are finished in 3–10 business days. Many simple sizings and quick fixes are done the same week. Every repair we perform is backed by a 6-month workmanship warranty.
Why repair in-house matters
Most Metro Vancouver jewellers send repairs out to a third-party trade shop, which means your piece travels by courier and you can’t be quoted in person. We don’t. Every resize, solder, setting, and polish happens at our bench in Coquitlam Centre, so sentimental pieces and heirlooms never leave the shop overnight, and we can show you exactly what needs doing before you commit. After any repair, Jewelers Mutual recommends having valuable pieces re-appraised every couple of years — we can prepare a fresh appraisal at the same time.
Common repair questions
Do you repair watches?
No. We’re a fine-jewellery workshop and do not offer watch repair, battery changes, or movement servicing. We’re glad to recommend a dedicated watchmaker for that.
Do you give estimates before starting?
Always. Every repair gets a free written estimate with firm pricing before any work begins. If you decide not to proceed, there’s no charge.
Can you repair rings with opals, emeralds, or pearls?
Yes — we use a touch-screen laser welder for heat-sensitive stones and antique solder joins, which protects the stone during the repair rather than exposing it to a torch.
