Jewellery Appraisals in Coquitlam
Written replacement-value appraisals for insurance, estates, and probate — prepared on-site at our Coquitlam Centre store by a CJA-member jeweller.
Vanhess Jewellery prepares written jewellery appraisals on-site at our Coquitlam Centre store — replacement-value reports for insurance, estate and probate work, and resale or family division. Appraisals are completed by a Canadian Jewellers Association member who examines, tests, and grades each piece in person, so your insurer or executor gets a credible, defensible valuation.
When you need an appraisal
- Insurance — most insurers require a current written appraisal to schedule a ring or fine-jewellery item on your policy. Jewelers Mutual recommends updating appraisals roughly every two years because precious-metal and stone prices move.
- Estate & probate — fair-market valuations for settling an estate or dividing jewellery among family.
- After a custom piece or major repair — a fresh replacement-value figure reflecting current materials and workmanship.
- Resale or private sale — an independent assessment of what a piece is realistically worth.
What an appraisal includes
Each written appraisal documents the metal and purity, total carat weight, and a description and grade of the principal stones — assessed against the GIA 4Cs standard for diamonds — along with measurements, condition, photographs, and a stated replacement value with the valuation date. If a diamond carries a GIA report, we reference it; you can verify any GIA-graded stone yourself through GIA Report Check.
Pricing & timing
Appraisal fees are charged per item (not as a percentage of value, which would be a conflict of interest), with the exact fee confirmed before we begin. Many single-item appraisals are completed during your visit or within a few business days; larger collections take a little longer. You leave with a signed, dated written report suitable for your insurer or executor.
Appraisal questions
How often should I update my appraisal?
Jewelers Mutual suggests every two years or so, since gold, platinum, and diamond prices change. Your insurer may also have its own requirement.
Do I need an appraisal to insure my engagement ring?
Usually yes — most insurers require a current written appraisal to add a specific item to your policy. We provide exactly that kind of replacement-value report.
Can you appraise jewellery I didn’t buy from you?
Yes. We appraise pieces from any source, including inherited and estate jewellery. Bring any existing GIA reports or receipts and we’ll factor them in.
